Spring is almost upon us. A time for dresses and mini skirts, and if you're like me that means it's time to shed your winter fur. I love to feel the breeze through my hair but not my leg hair! So through the years I have found the best and worst ways to remove the unwanted hair. Today I will share with you the best and worst ways to remove hair, and what each of them do. So let's get started.
Let's begin with the old time classic. Shaving.
Shaving is a great way to get rid of the stubble fast and easy. But it'll only last about 1 to 4 days.
Shaving is basically taking a razor and cutting hair off at the skin's surface.
Beware, even though it's quick and easy it comes with some risks. The razor can be dangerous in weird areas like your bikini zone, where the skin is uneven. Also Shaving as you know can make hair grow by thicker, because it cuts hair at the thickest part of the hair, the center.
Little tip, shave in the shower when the skin and the hairs are soft from the heat. And always use a new razor, and Shaving cream to help the razor glide on smoothly. Relatively cheap for a few days of smooth.
Next up Depilatory Lotions, most commonly on is Nair.
What these lotions basically are, are chemicals that dissolve your skin at the surface.
It lasts for about 3 to 7 days
Lotions are good for hard to get places like uneven areas such as the bikini zone, but not your lady bits. The hair grows back less coarse than a razor, so yes you can use them on your face like your upper lip or chin.
Now for a personal favorite Wax!
Wax pulls hair up and out from the follicles.
Wax also keeps you bare for up to 6 weeks!
What it's good for? Everything thing! It's safe to use on your face, legs, underarms and lady bits. Waxes leave you completely bare with no dark spots.
Waxes can be irritating especially if you have sensitive skin or are prone too ingrown hairs.
Lasers, another method that's growing a huge following. Is a method where a laser destroys hair follicles to prevent growth.
You may have to do multiple treatments, but usually you have to do it every 3 to 5 years. If you're very hairy you may have to go for a touch up every few months.
It's good for everywhere. You might never have to worry about hair again!
This is a very expensive, and the lasers can make your skin permanently blotchy.
If you're considering Lasers don't wax or tweeze first. You need to have full hair growth for it to be effective. And don't go just anywhere. Aesthetics offer the service but they aren't that experienced. Stick to MD's they are better trained and you're less likely to go wrong.

Electrolysis, otherwise known as the holy mecca of hair removal.
It's a electrical needle that destroys your hair follicles to stop hair growth.
You do it once and it's gone forever. And of course you can do it anywhere!
Warning if done incorrectly it can be painful and lead to scarring.
Only get this done by a licensed dermatologist or medical doctor. Surprisingly it's cheaper than lasers. But still pretty expensive.
Oooh, great post! I personally prefer shaving because it doesn't hurt as much but I'll wax when it's needed. Thanks for sharing xx

I was just sent an epilator for review, and I was psyched to use it on my face. It worked well except for on my chin. It just gouged the heck out of my chin and didn't remove the hair there at all. Have you had any luck with epilators?
ReplyDeletei'll definitely have to try that out. Let me know how your experience goes though. I may get one though.
DeleteI prefer waxing as well, it's all I've ever done since I was a teen! I do shave when I get lazy these days but I love the results of waxing much better! I'm trying to stay away from nair but I do want to try it on my chin because threading can get pricey!!

I stick with shaving for my body but now that you mention Nair I wonder if it still smells, would love to try to use it to maintain my brows
