I was big in to the minimalistic lifestyle and was so thrilled to have my capsule collection. It was beautiful and so peaceful. I love clean lines and the simplicity of it. But let's be real it's not very practical. For some people maybe, but if you're wearing more than one outfit, or better yet, you hate running out of clothes to wear then it's not for you. I've had a capsule wardrobe for about a month or so now and I've had to wash clothes about every other week and I would still searching for clean clothes a few days later. It's a headache honestly.
However I am glad I did it. Creating a capsule wardrobe help me find my personal style and really own it. It made me feel more comfortable with what I wore and how I wore it. Better still, it made comfortable with myself as well as my trust my instincts with my wardrobe rather than just buying or following whatever trends are popular right now. With the capsule wardrobe, I knew what I had in my closet so I didn't have to wonder if I had anything to go with what I had in my closet. I also knew the likely hood of me wearing something I just bought.
Like last time when I was at the mall I was looking at this adorable cut out top. I just new I would love it but when I started thinking about pairing it together I realized it wasn't really me. It was a cute top, but I'd never wear it, nor did it go with anything in my wardrobe. I don't even miss it. That's the beauty of the capsule wardrobe, it gets you just what you need while showing you what you really want. But it does come with some faults . Here's some of my best and worst experiences with my capsule wardrobe.
The Purging
While I love playing in my wardrobe as much as the next girl, purging my wardrobe was the worst. It wasn't so much that act it was choosing what and what not to keep. As well as what to do with the clothes. I donated most of them to goodwill, which was good I guess, but what about my wardrobe. Then again I'm glad that I got rid of them they weren't doing me any good.
Lack of Clothes
Nothings worse than wanting to try something new or wanting to break the habit and not having anything to wear. Or when you get bored with one look, or run out of clothes and having to do laundry just for clean clothes. It's just a hassle, that could be solved if I simply had more clothes.
You Find Yourself
I've always thought that I was a complex human being. Turns out it's not at all that serious, once I got rid of all that clutter I found my peace. With my clothing gone I got to focus on other things , really get to know what I like and not like. Simply by cleaning out my wardrobe and experience life instead of simply shopping to fill my need I felt my needs with living life.
Hone Your Style and Your Look
As I said before by eliminating the clutter I got to see my true style and tune in to what I like and don't like. I figured what I like and didn't like, also what I would wear and what I simply wouldn't. I stopped impulse buying and figured what I loved and what I didn't. I got to know my style and stopped being afraid of my own intuition, followed my heart found out what I liked.
At the end if the day, if you're looking to own your style and really find yourself a capsule wardrobe is great, but it's temporary. Don't follow my mistake, don't get rid of all your clothes. If you do, however, it's a great excuse to go shopping for a whole new wardrobe that you'll love.
